Dear Reader,
Ah, the end of November. In Florida local space that means the sales have started, Butterball turkeys have become an endangered food item in the local grocery store, and I feel extremely Australian as everyone starts wishing each other "Happy Thanksgiving!"
because I don't instinctively associate November with any kind of major holiday.
Seriously, it's beach weather where I grew up right now. The sheer
quantity of pumpkin-, farmhouse-, and hay bale-based decor that manifests on US shelves around this time of year truly baffles me.
The only time I've
ever seen a hay bale in Australia is on an actual working farm. They are itchy and scratchy and attract bugs which makes it a truly baffling decorating choice.
But I find the enthusiasm with which most Americans approach their holidays very charming. Plus it's a primarily food-based holiday! What could possibly be bad about that?
(A turkey dinner with all the trimmings is a traditionally Christmas thing in my family. I'm not at all sad to be doubling up this year!)
So I want to wishing everyone a very happy holiday! (Or happy regular rest of the week to those not US-based!!!)
May all your
food be perfectly cooked, may your family all be considerate and not all provoking, and may you find that thing you've been wanting forever on massive Black Friday discount and may you swoop in and pounce on it just before it runs out of stock!
