Dear Reader,
The first romance book I ever read was a regency. Specifically, it was Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. Most people now
categorize it as a 'classic'--which it absolutely is--but it is also the prototype of the modern romance novel.
This is a fact, not an opinion, and I will die on this hill.
So even though it's not the sub-genre of
romance I write in, I've always had a soft spot for regency romances. From Austen I went to Georgette Heyer novels and they remain my comfort reads. I've lost myself in the stories of Julie Garwood, Eloise James, Lisa Kleypas, and Tessa Dare.
But my favorite of all the modern regency writers has always been Julia Quinn. I picked up The Viscount Who Loved
Me when I was sixteen and I've been a fan ever since. So when Shonda Rhimes decided to make Bridgerton verse into a TV show I was thrilled. To put it mildly.
I adored Season One, had strongly mixed feeling about Season Two (which is very different from the book it's based on, but was a fun ride in its own right once I stopped comparing it to the source
material), and it's t-minus seven days until Season Three of Bridgerton drops and I. Am. So. Excited!!!!!
