At first I thought it was cute. Because every time Mystic sneezes, she stares up at the ceiling like she's looking for divine inspiration and then sneeze explodes out of her in a massive full body twitch. It's a surprisingly large sound from such a tiny body. But then her purr started to sound wheezy and she began self-soothing by licking the fur off her belly. 🙁
So Ms Melinda and I took her to her vet, Lauren. Lauren weighed her, listened to her chest, and diagnosed her with a probable respiratory infection. Then she took a throat swab which did not go down well. Mystic was not a fan of having her jaws pried open and a cotton bud forced down her gullet. And really who can blame her?
But the story had a happy ending, Lauren bought her way back into Mystic's good graces with approximately a million cat treats. Mystic grumbled a bit as she chewed but ultimately decided to forgive her vet.
The good news is that Mystic is now on the mend. She was prescribed an oral antibiotic that Ms Melinda has to give her twice a day for the next couple of weeks. It seems to be working well.
The only slight problem is that someone has to hold Mystic as she's being dosed. And because I'm a sucker and an excellent cat aunt, that person has been me. Between Ms. Melinda's aim and Mystic's claws, I'm down a couple of sweaters.
But at least it's all for a good cause?
